On April, 25 in all large cities of Murmansk area, the youth environmental organization Nature and Youth (Priroda I Molodezh), with support from the international environmental group Ecodefense, arranged mass actions in Memory of the Chernobyl accident under the slogan "20 years since Chernobyl – we remember for the sake of the future".

The overall objective of these actions is to remind ourselves of the terrible tragedy which happened 20 years ago on the Chernobyl atomic power station, the heroism of liquidators, which have given the lives for the sake of the future generations to minimize consequences of tragedy, and the consequences which were reflected in all continents. This memory must exist so that humans dont forget.

Everyone could join the ecologists and honour the memory of the victims that suffered under the tragedy. People could dress in mourning tapes and light church candles. Except for traditional leaflets and labels, breadboard models of the Chernobyl and Kola atomic power station were buildt as a reminder of the situation on Kola Nuclear Power Plant.

- It is important to remember that in the Murmansk area, a similar risk is created by the Kola Nuclear Power Plant, where two reactors have fulfilled their design term. In opinion of the Office of Public Prosecutor in Murmansk area, the old reactors work illegally. That certainly raises the risk for a new tragedy of such scale, says Vitaly Servetnik, chairman of the Murmansk Regional Youth Public Environmental Organization, Nature and Youth.

Actions have also been maintained by other youth organizations in the region "4H" and "EcoNord" in Apatity, «Kola Falcons» in Kirovsk, "Point of view" in Kandalaksha, and the club "UNECO" in Monchegorsk.

Days of Memory of the Chernobyl accident passes this week in many different countries. In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus it will be arranged various actions - from meetings and processions up to "Chernobyl lessons" at the schools, which also have taken place on schools in the Murmansk area.
