International demostrations against Hartree Partners
Save Repparfjord! The 26th of februray we will meet up against one of the key investors, Hartree Partners, outside their offices around the world. They can no longer ignore the injustices and trampling of indigienous peoples rights and the destruction of nature in Northern Norway.
From Melbourne to New York for Repparfjord
Join the global mobilization against Hartree Partners this Thursday the 26th of February.
About Hartree Partners and the mining project
Hartree Partners, a U.S. investment firm, has just fully financed the start-up of the Nussir Mine—a copper mine in Repparfjord, Sápmi (Northern Norway) that threatens a nationally protected wild salmon fjord and violates Indigenous Sámi rights.
30 million tons of toxic mining waste will be dumped into the fjord, devastating marine life and local fisheries. Norway is one of the only countries in the world still approving this harmful practice.
The mine is on traditional Sámi reindeer herding land. The Sámi Parliament and local herders have not given consent—violating United Nation Declaration of Indigenous Peoples’, ILO Convention No. 169 and the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.
Using the green transition as a justification for destroying ecosystems and violating indigenous peoples’ rights is unacceptable. Copper must be sourced in ways that respect both people and the planet.
We demand that Hartree Partners:
- Immediately divest from the Nussir mining project.
- Publicly state that they don’t support environmental destruction or the marginalization of indigenous communities in the name of sustainability.
- Prioritize investments that truly support a just and equitable gretransition.
Demonstrations
Hartree Partners has refused to meet us for several months. To make ourselves clear and to tell them our demands we will meet at their offices - irregardless of if they want to meet us.
We will meet outside their offices in six different countries. We will demonstrate on the doorsteps of their offices in London, Geneve, Hamburg, Melboure and New York on Tuesday the 26th of February. In Oslo we will have a weeklong demonstration from the 24th to the 27th from 0800 followed by festival at 1630 on Brynjulf Bulls Plass each day.
If you can’t attend in person, please sign and spread the petition calling on Hartree Partners to pull out of the project.
You can also follow the @ReddRepparfjord or @NaturOgUngdom Instagram accounts for more information about the fight for Sami rights and against ocean dumping in Norway.
